At Boeing, I've designed 0 to 1 internal engineering tools and data dashboards to automate workflows for engineering, analysts, and mechanics. As the sole designer, I lead the full design cycle, user research studies, and engineering handoff.

My Impact

Shipped three data visualization dashboards from concept to launch to improve workflow management.
Also owned the end-to-end design of:
(1) Internal engineering estimating tool, (2) Organization homepage website.
Led user research studies and presented to stakeholders to communicate design ideas and align with business goals. Collaborated with cross-functional groups across research, design iterations, and development.

Learnings

Designing Data Visualizations

Having worked on many data visualization projects, I discovered the complexity that comes with displaying large amounts of data. Working with stakeholders, I was able to understand aspects such as the objectives of the data, why they need the information, and what insights are relevant.

As a UX designer, this allowed me to break down the data conceptually and develop an understanding of how to build hierarchy, simplify, and tell a meaningful story that users can comprehend.

Communicating to non-technical stakeholders.

As the first designer on this team, I often presented my work to non-technical stakeholders. Being able to demonstrate relevancy and break down design concepts allowed me to explain my process, while connecting my work back to business and product goals.

Having a background in software engineering, I was also able to help in the transition to development by providing insight on front-end code when needed.
